Teacher Seeks New Students to Snort-Giggle With

I have two back-to-back lesson times available on Monday afternoon, 3:30-4:15 and 4:15-5:00pm. This time slot would be suitable for two siblings who live in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, East Vancouver (north of 1st Ave) or North Burnaby.

I would also love to meet some new adult students. These time slots could be split up for two individuals. In that case, the available lesson times would be Monday 3:30-4:15pm and Monday 4:45-5:30pm.

I welcome new students at any level – beginner, intermediate, or advanced. I especially love teaching adult beginner students (it’s never too late to start!), or adult students wanting to regain lost piano skills after many years of not playing (it’s never too late to begin again!)

I am comfortable teaching many genres of music, primarily jazz, classical and pop but also blues, country, rock, and folk. I teach in-person piano lessons at your home, in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and some areas of North Burnaby and northeast Vancouver. I prepare students for Royal Conservatory or Canadian Conservatory exams and I also work with students who are interested in playing piano only for their own pleasure.

My education and training includes a Diploma in Professional Music, Performance Major from Selkirk College in Nelson B.C., a B. Mus (Bachelor of Music) degree, Music Education Major from Capilano University in North Vancouver, and two decades of experience teaching piano and music theory one-on-one. I am in my final year of study as a graduate student at the Faculty of Education, Counselling Psychology Program at Simon Fraser University. My work towards an M.Ed degree at SFU is helping me improve immensely as a teacher, gain insight into how mental health issues affect learning, and explore how teaching/counselling can be a vehicle for change. I also have years of experience teaching students with special needs, learning disabilities, and chronic illness.

If you, your child, or anyone you know are interested in exploring the fascinating, beautiful, infinite world of music via the piano with a trustworthy, qualified teacher/guide who sometimes snort-giggles with her students while playing duets with them, please contact me on this website or at alisonmaira@live.com.
